Everything from sparklers to fountain fireworks will be on sale from McNary High School music students during the band’s annual fireworks sale.
Elizabeth Hering, the school band director, said in an email the fundraiser is run by the McNary Band Boosters and provides money covering about 40% of the program’s expenses. The funds will go towards items such as marching band camp, uniforms, bus rentals and competition fees.
The booth is at V2 Dentistry at 4575 River Road N. It will be open daily from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. between Wednesday, June 24, and Saturday, July 4. On July 3 and 4, the stand will remain open until 9 p.m.
Alicia Geck, treasurer for the booster club, said the stand offers multipacks of fireworks for roughly $80, compared to $120 to $150 elsewhere.
Geck estimates 100 volunteers will help with the stand, consisting of students and parents working in shifts over the different days.
Geck said the band program is growing, causing additional expenses. She noted the associated costs with entering and traveling to competitions.
This spring, the band won a state championship for the first time in the school’s history.
“All of the support we can get from the community is appreciated,” Geck said.
