Memorial honoring fallen military coming to Keizer

Escorted by law enforcement and veterans on motorcycles, a traveling wall paying tribute to fallen service members will arrive in Keizer in July.

The Wall of Honor will be featured at Roto-Rooter Park on Friday, July 3, listing the names of over 6,500 people who died in combat while serving in the U.S. military since 1991. Its arrival in Keizer is part of a Patriotic Tribute Weekend hosted by the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, which begins play that day.

The memorial, originally called Faces of the Fallen, was created by a senior at Milwaukie High School in 2003 and has been stewarded by nonprofit Vets Helping Vets since 2014. It has been displayed in schools, museums, malls and elsewhere, according to the website.

The wall is expected to arrive at the stadium from Albany at 10 a.m., accompanied by its escorts. It will be available for free viewing after the opening ceremonies held by the nonprofit, which are scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

Volcanoes spokesperson Celia Walker said the ceremonies will honor veterans and fallen service members, and include one honoring prisoners of war.

There is no charge to park or view the wall.

Walker said the memorial will be available to view until around 4 p.m., just before gates open for the baseball game at 4:30.
