McNary musical spotlights classic fairytale characters

Students portraying Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and other fairytale characters soon will take to the stage at McNary High School.

The musical “Into the Woods” will run from Wednesday, May 13, through Saturday, May 16, with performances beginning at 7 p.m. On Saturday, an additional matinee performance will begin at 2 p.m.

Tickets will cost $12 per adult, and $10 for students and seniors. They can be purchased online through a link on the McNary High School Theatre department’s Facebook page.

Tom Cavanaugh said the story follows the versions of classic fairytale characters created by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The characters each quest to fulfill a wish, and must face the consequences of their wishes.

Cavanaugh said the school has not staged this musical before. It was chosen because of its mix of humor and “serious messages,” as well as feedback from students familiar with it.
