Top musicians from McNary High School are preparing to demonstrate their skills to the community.
On Wednesday, April 29, about 120 students across the school’s most advanced ensembles will take to the stage in Salem’s Elsinore Theatre for the annual Celebration of Music concert.
Performing groups include the Highlander Classics choir, chamber orchestra, wind ensemble and symphony orchestra.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. and music will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the theater’s website. They cost $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Those aged 12 and under enter for free.
Students have been preparing for the concert since January, but began practicing some songs before then, according to orchestra teacher Sean Williams.
According to a press release, students will perform a range of classical and contemporary songs that “highlight their skill and artistry.” Some of the modern songs will include “Rushlight” by Andrew David Perkins and “I’ll Be On My Way” By Shawn Kirchner.
Williams said in an email that the grand finale will bring all performing groups together for “Let There Be Peace On Earth” by Sy Miller and Jill Jackson.
“This collaborative piece will showcase the unity and camaraderie that defines the McNary High School music community,” the release stated.
The release said the annual concert has become “a highly anticipated event, showcasing the exceptional talent and dedication of McNary High School’s music students.”
