Police Scanner – December 1 – December 7

The Keizer Police Department is participating through December in the “Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving” campaign.

The program is in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which reports that one-third of all traffic crash fatalities involve drunk drivers.

“If you plan to go out and include alcoholic beverages in your celebration, please have a plan and a designated driver,” advised Lt. Trevor Wenning.

Keizer police arrested three drivers for DUII in recent days.

•On Saturday, Dec. 6, at about 9 p.m. officers responded to a crash near the intersection of Northeast Harcourt Avenue and Ivy Way. “A single vehicle struck or side swiped several parked cars before coming to rest,” Wenning reported.

Jacob B. Watkins, 22, of Keizer, was arrested for DUII, reckless driving and criminal mischief.

•On Sunday, Dec. 7, at about 4 a.m., an officer was passed by a motorist going north on River Road. “As the driver passed, the officer made eye contact with him and it appeared to the officer the driver was either extremely tired or possibly impaired,” Wenning reported.

The officer followed and then stopped the driver, who left the travel lane several times.  Armando Martinez-Martinez, 39, of Salem, was arrested for DUII.

•On Sunday, Dec. 7, at just before 10 a.m., police responded to the report of a vehicle crashing into a tree in the 500 block of North Chemawa Road.

Marvin H. Mendoza, 25, of Salem was arrested for DUII, reckless endangering of another person (passenger) and hit and run.
