McNary’s homecoming week features games, big dance

The homecoming festivities at McNary High School were off to a bang on Thursday, Sept. 25, with the ‘Powder Puff’ flag football game.

The seniors girls faced off against the juniors, with the seniors winning 38-7.

The stadium was packed with students and parents. The theme was Pink Out and the student section did not disappoint with a sea of pink, loud as ever.

On Friday the festivities got even louder with the homecoming football game. The score was 35-28 with Canby winning.

The Celts may have lost but they fought hard and the game was even closer than what the score showed.

Among highlights of the game was a 65-yard connection from Aris Vasseur to Jordan Hunter. The final stats were 296 total yards with 210 passing yards and 86 rushing yards.

They will be looking to bounce back at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3 at Hillsboro.

At the homecoming dance on Saturday, music blasted in the McNary gym as students shook the floorboards beneath their feet on.

Faculty welcomed the Celts as they made their way into the western entrance of the school looking forward to a fun, memorable night.

After the first four weeks of the school year and the approaching end of the grading period, students welcomed the opportunity to relax and socialize with their peers, yelling over the music to talk and bouncing with the rhythm.

While some of the student body stayed on the dance floor, others preferred to float around the halls with their friends, buying food and taking pictures, preferring a quieter time outside of the bustling gymnasium.

The pulsing crowd of high schoolers broke into smaller flocks of close friends that were even more jovial than the students dancing at the center of the gym.

Meanwhile couples took the opportunity to dance and enjoy a nice evening. As the dance ended and students filed into their cars to go home, it marked the end of the beginning of the school year, setting the tone for what is sure to be a great upcoming year for the Celts.
