Police department calls: Police seek Newton Park graffiti vandals

Police Scanner – April 20 – April 26

Keizer police are continuing to seek suspects who applied graffiti at Bob Newton Park in the Gubser neighborhood.

The vandals struck on March 2, tagging a park outhouse and an electrical meter at the park and a nearby resident’s fence. Police said the graffiti incident appeared to be the work of several people.

Investigators with the Keizer Police Department’s Community Response Incident identified one suspect already being sought by police for another crime a year earlier. On April 16, police arrested Julien D. Colvin, 19, of Keizer after his mother brought him to the police agency, according to Lt. Trevor Wenning.

He was charged with several counts of first-degree criminal mischief for the park graffiti.

Colvin also was accused of unlawful possession of a firearm, related to a police contact following an incident on April 19, 2025, at the Keizer McDonald’s.

Police responded to a man with a gun inside the restaurant and arrested one person.

Braden P. Nelson, 20, formerly of Keizer, pleaded guilty last September to unlawful possession of a firearm. He was placed on probation for 18 months. Last January, he was charged in a new case with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of cocaine.

Wenning said that Colvin was with Nelson at the time of the restaurant incident. Police recovered a gun from a fanny pack he was carrying, he said.
