Keizer’s big event of the year is coming up this Saturday – the Celebrate Keizer Awards Banquet.
The Jan. 17 event, which honors top community members and supporters, starts at 5 p.m. at the Keizer Event Center, 930 Chemawa Road N.E.
The program will recognize the newly announced 2025 honorees: Joe Van Meter, Keizer First Citizen; Odd Moe’s Pizza Keizer, Merchant of the Year; Taylor Miller, Service to Education; as well as winners of the Chamber President’s Award and the Future First Citizen.
Tickets cost $75 for Chamber members, or $85 for non-members. The event is organized by the Keizer Chamber, with Willamette Valley Bank as the presenting sponsor.
• ON STAGE: Meanwhile, drama students at McNary High School are gearing up for a big show. The teen edition of the musical “Chicago” will be staged at the school during the last two weekends of January.
There will be 7 p.m. performances Jan. 22-24 and Jan. 29-31, and 2 p.m. matinees on two Saturdays, Jan. 24 and Jan. 31.
Tickets cost $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, and can be purchased at mcnarytheatre.ludus.com or at the door.
• MAGICAL MUSIC: And mark your calendar for an inspirational concert coming up in Salem later this month, as Salem Symphonic Winds presents “Tales the Winds Remember” on Sunday, Jan. 25.
Billed as musical storytelling, the concert weaves together legends, literature and cultural themes, at 3 p.m. at South Salem High School.
The performance will offer symphonic presentations of an Inuit legend from Greenland, a celebration of Spanish dance, and a work inspired by the acclaimed literary saga “The Cemetery of Forgotten Books.” The program closes with a tribute to the iconic mosque-cathedral “La Mezquita de Cordoba.”
Artistic director John Skelton invites the audience to enjoy an afternoon of unforgettable music “that transends borders and time, celebrating the stories that live in the wind.”
