Keizer pedestrian killed in hit-and-run, Keizer woman arrested

A 28-year-old Keizer man was struck by a vehicle and killed as he walked along Northeast Trail Avenue on the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 18, according to the Keizer Police Department.

Police identified the victim as Michael Sanchez.

The collision, near Northeast Harmoney Drive, was reported at 7:49 p.m. by a neighbor who heard the crash and found Sanchez on the ground, according to Lt. Tim Hein. He said Sanchez lived in the area.

The vehicle that struck Sanchez was gone but a part was left at the scene.

Police just before midnight located the vehicle – a 2014 Jeep Wrangler – in Keizer. Jeanette Carbajal 33, of Keizer, was arrested for failing to perform the duties of a driver to an injured person. The crime is a felony.

Hein said police were continuing to investigate and that additional criminal charges are possible.
