No holidays for Keizer Fire District

Fireman extinguishes a fire in an old wooden house

The Independence Day weekend kept the Keizer Fire District, fighting several fires and rescuing a deer from a tight spot.

The most serious call came on Thursday, July 4, to a house in the 2300 block of Shoreview Lane N., when firefighters responded to a fire at a 3-story four plex. Two vehicles burned and the exterior and garage suffered fire damage.

According to the fire district, a resident of the unit said fireworks had been used and they thought the spent fireworks were placed in a bucket, thinking they were cold.

Another fire was on Stone Hedge Dr. NE, where firefighters were faced with a vinyl fence on fire. The residents declined to offer any information of what caused the blaze.

In a heart-warming call, firefighters responded to deer that got caught in a fence on Shady Lane NE.

Using the jaws of life, the firefighters were able to free it, allowing it to go on its way.
