National Night Out, a night for Keizer residents to come together and form stronger bonds, is coming Tuesday, Aug. 6.
The annual event, held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., is designed to heighten crime awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community relations.
According to Keizer Police Lt. Tim Hein, the event “encourages interaction with the community and emphasizes how Keizer police are there to help community members out.”
Neighborhoods wanting officer visits must register their event by July 30.
Registration can be done at keizer.org/RegistrationNationalNightOut.
Held on the first Tuesday of August, the event was introduced in 1984 involving more than 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states.
Now, 47 cities in Oregon participate in the event. Police officials encourage Neighborhood Watch block captains to organize an event as an opportunity to contact their participants, meet new neighbors and update their rosters.
Neighborhoods without an organized Neighborhood Watch are also encouraged to participate.
