Getting to know our neighbors

Ken & Nadine Telschow

Before retirement, Ken Telschow served in the Navy for four years and then was a millwright for a sawmill. In his retirement he enjoys being a member of the Farifield Grange and cooking chicken fried steak at the Keizer /Salem Area Senior Center the third Friday of every month. He has been working with the senior center for about 12 years. He has been married to Nadine for 61 years. His advice to young people is to be enthusiastic about working and doing a good job.

Nadine worked at Safeway and KeyBank before retiring. She and Ken have two children and two grandchildren. They joked about calling their grandchildren when they need help with technology. One of the things she enjoys in her retirment is making quilts for the Liberty House. Before coming to Willamette Lutheran, she and her husband were campground hosts in Klamath County. They were there during the Biscuit Fire in 2002. Her advice to young people is to plan ahead for the future, specifically retirement.

Don Adams

A conversation with Don Adams can be likened to a game of mental chess.

He has a passion for finding and writing other people’s stories and has written several books. He met his wife in high school and was married for 45 years. He had a production company in Hollywood but walked away because he didn’t want his kids to run into the wild life of Hollywood stars. “If you go from Beverly Hills to Scotts Mills, you’re crazy,” he said, which is exactly what he did.

His advice to young people is to go out and make everyday good for you and good for somebody else.

Randy Conover

Randy Conover has lived on and off at the Oaks at Sherwood since 1997 and is the president of the residents council. He was in an accident in 1996 which made him realize that when life gets hard you can make good choices and bad choices. Conover wants to foster a stronger connection between the community and the recovery home, he encouraged the community to come visit and spend time with residents. Zoe, his dog, spends her days at the home meeting and loving the residents and her nights with a family.

Jeffrey Stevens

Jeffrey Stevens has worn many hats during the course of his life, he was: a member of the Stylistics, a worker at Intel and Hewlett-Packard, a husband and a father of seven children. He’s not done yet. His stay at the Oaks at Sherwood is temporary, after he recovers from his upcoming surgery he plans to get back to enjoying life. Stevens has plans to record his songbook within the next year and continue to attend all the musical festivals he can. He said he enjoys playing music with Tom Grant.
