Here’s the latest from Keizertimes

Good morning.

Don A. Altermatt was known as Rocky.

He graduated from McNary High School, did a tour with the U.S. Army and then set up life in Keizer with his wife to raise a family.

Altermatt died in a fatal pedestrian accident in Keizer on Saturday, April 11, as he walked home from the Keizer Elks lodge.

A memorial service for him is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Virgil Golden Funeral Home in Salem.

Days after the accident, resolution came in an earlier pedestrian fatality in Keizer.

Jeanette Carbajal, 33, formerly of Keizer but recently listing a Salem address, pleaded guilty in Marion County Circuit Court for failing to perform the duties of a driver to an injured person.

She admitted she didn’t stop after striking Michale Sanchez, 28, last September as he walked along Northeast Trail Avenue. He died as a result.

Carbajal told police at the time she was driving to work.

She was sentenced to three years of probation, had her license suspended for five years and has to perform 100 hours of community service, according to court records.

Now, here’s what we’ve been reporting on in recent days at Keizertimes.
