A fire that began in bushes along Newberg Drive on Friday afternoon burned through an adjacent home.
Crews responded to the fire at 5305 Newberg Drive, at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, June 12. Christina Wilson, battalion chief at the Keizer Fire District, said the arbor vitae bushes alongside the right half of the duplex caught fire before spreading to the building’s attic.
The fire spread through that half of the duplex before it was put out by crews after 30 minutes.
On Friday afternoon Wilson said the cause of the fire remained under investigation. No one was injured.
Wilson said six fire engines responded to the scene, including those from the Keizer Fire District, Salem Fire Department and Marion County Fire District 1. The response also included two ambulances, a ladder truck and a vehicle bringing additional air and water.
Fire agencies helped connect the residents of the home with the Red Cross and arrange a hotel for the night.
