Those who want to help the environment in honor of Earth Day have an opportunity to do so in Keizer.
On Saturday, April 25, the city of Keizer is hosting an Earth Day Litter Cleanup beginning at 9 a.m. The event will be held at Wallace House Park, located at 3535 Rivercrest Dr. N. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot at the park.
Earth Day is on Wednesday, April 22.
Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes, clothes appropriate for the weather and to bring water bottles, according to a press release. Trash bags, pickers, gloves and vests will be provided.
Interested people can register to volunteer on the website for SOLVE, a volunteer organization. The city is partnering with the group for the event.
Organizer Stacey Perry, environmental education coordinator with the city, said this is the city’s first time planning a litter clean up for Thursday. Each summer, the city hosts “Trashy Tuesday” litter clean ups in various city parks.
Perry said organizers wanted to offer Keizer residents the opportunity to “get involved” for Earth Day.
The Wallace House was a fur trading post in the Willamette Valley built in the early 1800s.
