Here’s the latest from Keizertimes

Good morning!

If you live in Keizer or own a business here, a meeting on Saturday should catch your attention.

City leaders have been wrestling for months to solve a puzzle. How do they keep the community safe with policing when costs are rising faster than city income?

One solution: Double the monthly fee charged on utility bills to pay part of the costs of running the Keizer Police Department.

Anyone can speak Saturday as the Keizer City Council meets in a special work session. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. If you have an opinion about policing, city costs or how to pay for the service, you can get five minutes to speak directly to councilors.

Keizertimes will continue to bring you details.

Meantime, here’s what your local news team has been serving up in exclusive reporting you won’t find anywhere else.

We’ll keep an eye out for you on developments today.

In other news, it appears the Oregon Legislature isn’t going to put up any money for a new public safety building to serve Keizer. The session isn’t over quite yet but so far the money request hasn’t made it onto the list of special appropriations.
