Police department calls: Woman hospitalized, caregiver charged with mistreatment

Police Scanner – March 2 – March 8

A 60-year-old Keizer woman was hospitalized in February for a life-threatening wound, and her caregiver has been charged with mistreating her, according to Keizer police.

Officials with the state Adult Protective Services notified Keizer police on Friday, Feb. 27, that the woman was admitted for treatment of the wound at Salem Hospital. She remained hospitalized as of Monday, March 9.

The state agency “was concerned the paid caregiver failed to provide adequate care and was now demanding her release,” according to Lt. Trevor Wenning of the Keizer Police Department.

August Claunch, 47, of Keizer, was arrested on Monday, March 2, and was subsequently charged in Marion County Circuit Court on March 4 with first-degree criminal mistreatment. The charge said Claunch “unlawfully and knowingly withheld necessary and adequate medical attention and physical care” to the victim.

He is scheduled to appear in court on April 15.

•In other police activity, police attempted to stop a vehicle speeding on River Road near Sunset Avenue at just before 2 a.m. Friday, March 6. The driver stopped on Cummings Lane after nearly hitting another vehicle, police reported.

The driver was arrested for DUII and reckless driving, providing officers a different name.

Adam C. Ivie, 41, of Keizer, was subsequently also accused of identity theft, driving while suspended and giving false information to police.
