Keizer library: ‘The Women’, ‘Pinkalicious at the Fair’ top readers’ picks for 2025

The Keizer Community Library has released a list of its most checked-out books for 2025.

The top books, in total were “The Women” by Kristin Hannah, and “Pinkalicious at the Fair” by Victoria Kann. Each was checked out 14 times, according to a list provided to Keizertimes by the library. Both were also the top of their respective categories for adult fiction and children.

Hannha’s historical fiction novel follows a woman who served as a nurse during the Vietnam War. Kann’s children’s book follows the titular character’s adventure attempting to find her unicorn at a local fair.

Library volunteer Paula Guiles said many of those who check out adult fiction books are women, which may be a reason Hannha’s book was so popular.

“Dog Man” graphic novel series by Dav Pilkey had its own category, as the library has multiple copies available of each book. “Dog Man” was checked out 31 times, the most of the five Pilkey graphic novels included.

Other top books include “Atomic Habits” by James Clear for adult nonfiction, “Heir of Fire” and “Crown of Midnight” by Sarah Maas for young adults.

“Probably because they’re pretty current, newer,” Guiles said on why these books may have been the most chosen. For children’s books, she said young readers tend to be drawn to the pictures.

The local library is in the Keizer Cultural Center, 980 Chemawa Rd. N.E. The library is open 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 11 a.m to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.

Going into 2026, Vice President BJ Toewe said the library continues seeking new volunteers to work with children, shelve books or help at the circulation desk.

“We have only two part-time people who are paid positions, and everything else is done by volunteers,” Toewe said.
