Police department calls: Suspect eludes capture in pursuit

An early morning pursuit by Keizer police on Wednesday, Sept. 24, ended with deployment of spike strips, at least one police dog and a police drone – but no one in handcuffs.

At about 3 a.m., an officer attempted to stop an Audi A4 for a traffic violation, including lack of insurance, but the vehicle took off in Salem in the area of Northeast Pine Street. Spike strips disabled the car on Northeast Wyoming Avenue, just south of Silverton Road and near Scott Elementary School.

“The occupants fled on foot and were not located after an extensive search with drones and K9,” according to Lt. Trevor Wenning of the Keizer Police Department. He said the person suspected of being the driver was wanted on earlier charges.

•In other police activity, officers responded to a report of a crash at just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the 600 block of Northeast Chemawa Road, near the Keizer Fire District hall. One driver didn’t stop until eight blocks later. Donovan H. Muangin, 22, of Keizer, was arrested for DUII and reckless driving.
