USA Boxing in Keizer August 6

The sweet science is coming to Keizer on Saturday, Aug. 6, with the Better Health Boxing Show, an official USA Boxing event.

Toe 2 Toe Boxing Gym will be hosting the event, which is set to feature 10-12 bouts. At least four of the five fighters from the Toe 2 Toe team will have bouts, gym owner Adam Navarro said.

Fighters ranging from ages 8-36 from nine teams will take part, coming from as far as Vallejo, Calif. and Tacoma, Wash. There is one female fight on the card, though not featuring Toe 2 Toe’s one female fighter.

Navarro said he has been trying to find a fight for her, but scheduling these bouts is difficult when having to take age, weight class and experience level all into account.

Being a USA Boxing event, many of the fighters featured will use the event as a way to work themselves closer to the olympic team and qualifiers.

This is the first event hosted by Toe 2 Toe. Navarro said that their old space wasn’t large enough, but their new location they moved into about three months ago has sufficient space. He said they worked hard to keep the business in Keizer, and look to hold at least one event every three months, if not more based on interest and other local events.

The event is being used as a fundraiser for the Toe 2 Toe team to help with travel expenses and new equipment. The team has been running for just over one year, Navarro said.

Toe 2 Toe Boxing Gym is located at 4122 River Rd. N. Doors open at 3 p.m., with the first bout scheduled for 4 p.m.
