A six-run second inning catapulted the Volcanoes to a 10-7 series-opening win over the Campesinos. Tony Holton and Sam Jones had two hits apiece, and Nick Adgar had three RBIs for the Volcanoes.

After the Volcanoes already scored three runs in the second thanks to a sacrifice fly by Landen Barnes and an RBI-hit by Bryan Ruby, Adgar cleared the bases with a three-run double to give the Volcanoes a 6-0 lead.

The Campesinos got two back in the third on RBI-hits by Patrick Chung and Rick Phillips, but the Volcanoes went up 7-2 in the fourth on an RBI-groundout by Garrett Kueber.

After a solo homer by CJ Epperson made the score 8-4 in favor of the Volcanoes, the Campesinos cut the lead to one by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth. However, Holton gave his team some insurance with a two-run triple in the bottom half of the frame.

Matt McDonald got the five-out save on the hill to seal the victory.

Saturday, July 10: Volcanoes 5 Campesinos 3.

Rick Phillips got the Campesinos on the board in the top of the first with an RBI-groundout, but the Volcanoes came back to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to take the 2-1 lead. Holton extended that lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run double to right center field.

Both teams put up a four-spot in the second inning, but the Mavericks broke ahead in the bottom of the fourth on consecutive RBI-singles by Alex Emerson and Matt Holiday to take a 6-4 lead.

An RBI-single from JaVon Logan got the Senators within one in the top of the fifth, but the Mavericks responded with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom half of the frame to put the game out of reach.

The Campesinos avoided the series sweep to remain atop the Mavericks League standings after defeating the Volcanoes 5-4.

The Volcanoes held onto the lead until the top of the eighth, when RBI-hits by Jeff Chandler and Sergio Ray allowed the Campesinos to tie the game at 4-4.

In the top of the ninth, a sacrifice fly by Nick Ybarra gave the Campesinos the lead back at 5-4.

After retiring the side in order in the bottom of the eighth, Campesinos pitcher Luke Laurita pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his second win of the season.
