After gaining the early lead, the McNary softball team couldn’t combat a four-run inning from Westview in the bottom of the fifth as the Celtics lost their final non-league game of the season by a score of 7-2.
Kate Ronning led the McNary offense by going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Both teams were scoreless after the first two frames, but the Celtics struck first in this one with a run in the top of the third.
The Celtics loaded up the bases with nobody out to start the inning. Taylor Ebbs then reached on an error — which was Westview’s second error of the inning — allowing Kamryn Miller to score from third.
Despite grabbing the 1-0 advantage, and still have the bags packed with nobody out, the Celtics couldn’t push any more across.
Westview came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth time the game at 1-1.
However, McNary was able to respond when they came to the plate in the top of the fifth.
Ronning and Ebbs hit back-to-back singles to begin the frame. Abbi Covalt followed with a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over to second and third.
Hannah Ebner then knocked in Ronning with an RBI-groundout to put McNary on top 2-1.
But after being in command in the first four innings, McNary pitcher Faith Danner couldn’t hold off Westview in the bottom of the fifth as the Wildcats struck for four runs to take a commanding 5-2 lead.
