Outside of the Salem-Keizer Public Schools district offices, more than 50 people lined the sidewalk in support of the Salem-Keizer Educators Association and the Association of Salem Keizer Education Support Professionals as the two unions are currently in mediation with the district for new contracts.

Community leaders pen letter supporting SKPS in bargaining

A letter signed by 13 current and former community leaders supporting Salem-Keizer Public Schools and urging union members to take the current financial issues the district is facing into consideration during bargaining was sent to the school board, SKPS, the Salem-Keizer Educators Association, the Association of Salem Keizer Education Support Professionals and media outlets on Tuesday.

At last week’s SKPS school board meeting, in her budget update Superintendent Andrea Castañeda announced that hundreds of district staff would have to be laid off at the end of the school year.

Keizer families get face to face with SKPS

In the last two weeks, Salem- Keizer Public Schools (SKPS) has made the rounds holding listening sessions at four of the six high schools. Monday night was Keizer and McNary High School’s turn. 

School district listening tour coming to McNary Oct. 30

Salem-Keizer Public Schools has embarked on a listening tour across the area high schools to get feedback from families and community members about important topics. 

The tour will make its stop at McNary High School on Monday, Oct. 30, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.
