Republican lawmakers blast policy allowing transgender female athletes to compete as girls

All 12 women Republican lawmakers in the state Legislature are calling on the head of the Oregon School Activities Association to change its policy allowing transgender girls to compete as females in school sports.

The letter was signed by Reps. Vikki Breese-Iverson of Prineville, Christine Goodwin of Canyonville, Anna Scharf of Amity, Bobby Levy of Echo, Emily McIntire of Eagle Point, Kim Wallan of Medford, Lucetta Elmer of McMinnville, Jami Cate of Lebanon, Shelly Boshart Davis of Albany, and Tracy Cramer of Gervais, and by Sens. Kim Thatcher of Keizer and Suzanne Weber of Tillamook.

Thatcher proposes making retirement easier for veterans

State Senators Kim Thatcher (R- Keizer) and Janeen Sollman (D-Hillsboro) announced on Nov. 29 they will champion a bill in 2024 to honor veterans’ service and make Oregon more affordable for them by allowing veterans to keep more of their retirement pay through a state income tax exemption.

Thatcher frowns at fellow Repubs’ return

 In a letter posted on her website on June 18, titled Response to Return of a Quorum, state Senator Kim Thatcher (R-Keizer), criticized fellow Republican lawmakers for surrendering to the majority Democrats to provide a quorum for Senate business after a six-week walkout. 

Thatcher earns third term

Republican Kim Thatcher was elected to her third term as a state senator for District 11 in Tuesday’s election over challenger Democrat Richard Walsh.

Election results from the Secretary of State’s office as of Wednesday morning, Nov. 9, showed Thatcher with 53.17% (15,702 votes) to Walsh’s 46.61% (13,809 votes). There was also a handful of write-ins.
