The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the area that goes into effect at 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, and will extend until 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Easterly winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected with gusts reaching 30 to 50 mph. The strongest gusts are expected in Multnomah and Clark counties.
Residents should be alert to falling tree branches. Some trees might also be uprooted. Drivers of high-profile vehicle are urged to use extra caution.
There may be a brief lull in the winds towards sunrise before gusty winds pick back up and spread across the rest of the Portland metro area toward mid to late morning. – Winds will slowly decrease across most of the metro and become confined to the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge Tuesday night through Thursday.
The wind patterns which will extend into California are expected to exacerbate wildfire control issues in that state.
