Law enforcement officers take a Salem man into custody after a peaceful standoff that lasted about an hour Tuesday, Sept. 10.
A north Keizer street was shut down for for about an hour Tuesday, Sept. 10, while law enforcement officers negotiated with a man who refused to get out of his vehicle after being pulled over.
About 10:30 a.m. Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on a 1996 Toyota pick-up on Wheatland Road North near Parkmeadow Lane North.
The driver of the car had allegedly been reported as trespassing on a property in the 1400 block of French Prairie Road Northeast a few hours prior to the encounter. The suspect had previously been arrested for trespassing at the same address and was violating his release agreement by returning to same place.
As deputies attempted to get the driver to exit his vehicle, the man refused and became uncooperative.
As a precaution, law enforcement officers closed Wheatland Road North until the man agreed to step out of the truck and surrender peacefully.
The driver was identified as Joel Haskins, 29, of Salem. He was taken into custody for violating his release agreement.
The Keizer Police Department and the Salem Police Department assisted during the incident.
