Keizer man fires bullet into neighboring apartment

A man practicing drawing a pistol from a holster fired a shot into a neighboring, occupied apartment on Thursday, July 25. A couple and their 4-year-old child were home at the time but no one was injured.

The incident took place at 7:15 a.m. in the 700 block of Lockhaven Drive Northeast.

The 22-year-old man, who fired a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol, told police he thought the gun was loaded with “dummy” round when it discharged through a window of his apartment. From there, the bullet traveled through the outside wall of a neighboring apartment and entered the living room about seven feet above the floor.

The bullet ricocheted along the apartment wall, but was not located by investigators.

Keizer police officers responded to the scene and forwarded the information to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of criminal charges. No arrest was made at the time the report was taken.
