It was supposed to be the season opener on May 12, but the weather had other plans.

So, on seemingly the first sunny day since the start of the Mavericks League season, the Mavericks and Volcanoes finally played that Opening Day matchup on Monday, June 20 — 39 days later.

With two outs in the second inning the Mavericks scored three runs on singles from Quadrese Teague and Jayden Hanna to break open the game on way to a 7-3 win in the seven inning matchup.

The Mavericks scored in each of the first three innings, and were up 6-2 after three.

Rey Gonzalez was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI on the day.

Aldrick Jimenez, Leonardo Perez and Alex Emerson combined to allow four hits and three earned runs for the Mavericks.

Jake Allen stayed hot for the Volcanoes, going 1 for 3 with an RBI after his 4 for 4, 3 RBI and 3 run week six showing.

The two teams start a new three-game series on Thursday, May 23.
