Mayor Cathy Clark and city councilor Daniel R. Kohler have announced they will both seek re-election to their current posts.
Clark was first elected mayor in 2014 after serving eight years as councilor. Presently, there are no other announced candidates for the office. The deadline for filing is August 31.
In her announcement,Clark wrote: “Keizer’s resiliency and strong community ethic has gotten us through a very difficult two years. Moving forward, we have new opportunities for Keizer to thrive as the home of pride, spirit and volunteerism. It would be an honor to be able to continue to serve this wonderful community as your Mayor.”
Councilor Kohler, first elected in 2018, wrote in his announcement, “I seek the opportunity to serve another four years because there are important items under way or coming up requiring seasoned and reasoned leadership.”
Some of the issues Kohler cited include a possible expansion of the Urban Growth Boundary to identify industrial land and attract good paying jobs; improvements for city parks; and, the effort to turn the Keizer Community Library into a public library.
“I offer my experience and leadership in the hope it will continue to be an asset to our wonderful community,” he concluded.
Clark is currently chair of the Mid-Willamette Valley Homeless Alliance and the Salem Keizer Area Transportation Study.
Kohler is president of Professional Preneeds, Inc.
