Wilsonville Invitational:
McNary track and field was back in action Saturday at Wilsonville High School alongside 27 other schools for the Wilsonville Invitational, but the results were more of the same for the struggling Celtics.
On the mens side, the host Wildcats dominated with a team score of 128.5, nearly 60 more than the second place Rams of Central Catholic. The Celtics’ 16 was part of a three-way tie for 13th.
The womens team were in a five-way tie for 20th with 4 points.
Individually, Celtics had six top-seven finishes on Saturday.
The highest was the fourth place finish in the mens 4X400 relay. The team of Caleb McCoy, Benjamin Standley, Pawat Potisuk and Benjamin Sheets came in with a time of 3 minutes, 33.97 seconds.
Standley had two other good showings, in the 800 and 1500-meters where he placed fifth and sixth respectively. Standley’s 2 minutes, 1.11 seconds in the 800-meters was a season best for him.
Rounding out the mens top finishes with a pair of sevenths were Potisuk in the 400-meters with a personal record time of 53.18 seconds, and Tyler Copeland in the long jump, leaping 19 feet, 11.5 inches.
For the women, Maile Salang finished fifth in the discus with a distance of 102 feet, 1 inch.
It may not show in the overall results, but Celtic athletes have continued to improve through the season, setting eight personal records on Saturday.
Joining Potisuk on the mens side setting personal records were Copeland in the 100-meters (11.61 seconds) and Connor Roop in the 1500-meters (4 minutes, 33.25 seconds).
Four Lady Celtics set personal records.
Jetta Mowrey did so in both the 100m hurdles (19.14 seconds) and the 300m hurdles (1 minute, 3.53 seconds). Andrea Maciel Rodriguez also set a personal best in the 300m hurdles at 1:02.18.
In the 100-meters, Kiana Olivo’s 14 seconds was a personal best. Anna Sponable also set a personal best in the javelin with a distance of 81 feet, 1 inch.

West Salem Meet:
The Celtics took part in a three-way dual meet at West Salem High School against West Salem and Cascade High School. In the meet, the three schools competed against each other with results being used to determine two dual meets.
McNary’s men lost to Cascade 80-55 and West Salem 112-28. West Salem defeated Cascade 89-46. The women lost to Cascade 70-39 and to West Salem by a score of 102-20. West Salem’s women beat Cascade 88.33-38.67.
Even with the difference on the scoreboard, McNary had 14 top-3 finishes, and recorded 18 personal records.
Celtic athletes took first in four events.
Caleb McCoy won the 400-meters with a personal record time of 53.69 seconds. Zachary Harrington also set a personal record at 56.72, good enough for fourth place.
They swept all three spots in the mens 3000-meters. Josiah Ziesemer finished first at 11 minutes, 30.47 seconds, a personal record. Derek Jones’ 11:30.50 was also a personal record, and third place finisher Shaun Dunn has a season record 12:43.93.
The mens 4X400 relay team of Pawit Potisuk, Axel Zapien Sanchez, Johann Singh Sanchez and Caleb McCoy won with a time of 3 minutes, 45.07 seconds.
The final first place finish for the Celtics came from Mary Jespersen in the long jump. Her leap of 14 feet, 2.25 inches was a personal record. So was her triple jump leap of 28 feet, 6.5 inches, good enough for second place.
