KFD responds to residential fire

Keizer Fire District crews respond to a house fire (Submitted).

Just after noon on Wednesday, Nov. 24, Keizer Fire District was notified of a “smoke in a structure” incident in the 400 block of Cummings LN N. by Willamette Valley Communications Center 911.

First arriving crews confirmed a structure fire in a detached in-law suite. Fire crews initiated fire attack and searched the structure and confirmed there were no occupants. Crews brought the fire under control within 15 minutes.

Damage to the building and contents is estimated at $50,000. One adult was displaced as a result of the fire. There were no injuries as a result of the fire. Keizer Fire District responded with one battalion chief vehicle, one medic unit, two fire engines, and one fire marshal vehicle, with a total of 11 people on the scene.

The cause of the fire appears to have started from a wood-burning stove.

The Keizer Fire District would like to remind residents to properly maintain wood-burning stoves and have their chimneys cleaned.
