KFD Chief Jeff Cowan speaks to the audience.

Keizer Fire District (KFD) hosted their annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony on Saturday — the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks — with a few dozen people in attendance.

“While we will remember those that we lost, let us also be thankful for the ones who answer the call every day,” said Fire & Life Safety Specialist Cody Heidt.

Sarah Mutinelli, director of the Young Singers Club Salem, sang the National Anthem and Mayor Cathy Clark, along with KFD Board President Chet Patterson placed the memorial wreath.

KFD Fire Chief Jeff Cowan concluded the morning with a speech, praising the resiliency of America.

“We mourned together the great loss. Together we cried and we grieved. We lit candles for hope. We fell to our knees for prayer and strength. Then we rose together as one nation under God.,” he said.
