Keizer, Salem involves two shootings, pursuit, possible pedestrian fatality

A police shooting and pursuit from Keizer into Salem Wednesday evening ended in a retailer parking lot in what video shows was a gunfight before a suspect was arrested.

Other video posted on social media and witness accounts indicate that a pedestrian was struck and killed in Keizer during the episode.

A statement from the Keizer Police Department and witness accounts on social media describe contact between police and a “suspicious vehicle” at 8:42 p.m. in the area of North River Road and Dearborn Avenue.

“During the contact, there was an officer involved shooting, pursuit and hit-and-run crash,” the police statement said. “The suspect is in custody and there is no danger to the public.”

The statement made no reference to a pedestrian death.

According to witness accounts posted to social media, police pursued the vehicle from Keizer south on River Road and then on Northeast Cherry Avenue.

One video shows what appears to be a victim of the hit-and-run in the 4400 block of River Road.

The pursuit ended in the parking lot of Home Depot, on Cherry Avenue south of the Salem Parkway. Video posted on social media shows several police cars surrounding a vehicle and the sounds of gunfire could be heard and orders for someone to get on the ground.
