Rene Bravo
A former Silverton Police Department sergeant was convicted on all charges relating to a Keizer domestic violence incident in March 2020.
A 12-person jury unanimously convicted Rene Bravo, 61, of Albany, of two counts of assault in the second degree, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, attempted assault in the fourth degree and interfering with a police officer.The jury rendered its verdict on Friday, March 12.
Bravo will be sentenced on April 9.
On March 2, 2020, a 9-1-1 caller reported that her husband was threatening her with a knife. She also reported struggling with Bravo as he attempted to gain control of a loaded rifle.
Responding officers entered the home and located the victim and her two children and evacuated them.
Officers found Bravo in the house wearing a bullet-resistant vest and refusing to comply with officers’ commands, eventually barricading himself in the home. Neighboring homes were evacuated as police attempted to negotiate with Bravo. Nearly three hours later, Bravo exited the home and was subdued by a K9 officer.
According to court documents, Bravo injured his wife with a knife during the incident.
According to public records, Bravo was previously employed as a military police officer with the Oregon National Guard, an officer with the Hubbard Police Department, and a reserve officer with Aurora Police Department. He was also listed as a training officer between 2014-15 with the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training.
