Remarkable scenes are unfolding in the nation’s Capitol as insurrectionists have stormed the building, disrupting the formal count of electors, and sending senators and representatives into shelter.
Supporters of President Trump also are staging outside the Oregon Capitol in Salem.
“Pence turned on us,” a man announced to the crowd, referring Vice President Michael Pence’s declaration that he had no authority to reverse the presidential election.
“This is legendary. This is part of history guys,” a Trump supporter at the Capitol declares as the crowd cheers what’s going on at the nation’s Capitol.

Merkley and other lawmakers were taken to a secure location after insurrectionists stormed the building attempting to overturn election results.
The nation's capital has erupted into chaos as Congress has convened to certify the 2020 election results. Protests are occurring in capitals across the country. So far, no disruptions have been reported in Salem.
The Salem Police Department said it will provide backup to Oregon State Police for a protest calling on Congress to throw out the results of the 2020 election. But with no groups or people organizing the event, it’s not clear what Salem should expect.
