Council candidates take part in two voter forums

Candidates for Keizer City Council will take part in a forum hosted by the West Keizer Neighborhood Association Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The forum will be hosted by Keizertimes Publisher Lyndon Zaitz in the lobby of the Keizer Civic Center. Candidates running for all open positions and Mayor Cathy Clark have been invited to participate.

The gathering will adhere to COVID-19 guidelines and attendance may be capped.

Another council candidate forum hosted by the Keizer Chamber of Commerce is slated Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Candidates will be part of a group Zoom call, which will be streamed on the Chamber’s Facebook page. Viewers can watch live or catch up later.

Keizertimes is also hosting recorded video conversations with candidates from each city council race. We plan to have the conversations available online at keizertimes.com by Oct. 11.

Other elections:

The Salem-Keizer NAACP is uniting with other organizations of color in Salem and Keizer to host a series of virtual, local candidate forums for the November 2020 election on Oct. 7-9. Forums will be held each night and the line-up of candidates planned for each evening is available at www.sknaacp1166.org.

All forums will be hosted on CC Media and broadcast live online in English and Spanish. Media partners KTUP Radio Poder and KMUZ community radio also will air the broadcasts.

The forums will be moderated by local people of color. Questions will be generated by participating organizations. Forums will feature local candidates from state, county, and city races.

In addition to the Salem-Keizer NAACP, other partnering organizations include: PCUN, Mano a Mano, Latinos Unidos Siempre, Salem Coalition of Churches, Micronesian Islander Community, Sikh Seva Foundation NW, Temple Beth Sholom, Capitol City SURJ, and S.O.S (Save Our Selves).
