Police have in custody two men who may be connected to the death by gunshot of a victim found in the parking lot of the Starbucks in Keizer Station.
The Statesman Journal reported that two 21-year-olds arrested by the Keizer Police Department Tuesday, Feb 4, might end up being charged in connection with the suspected homicide. However, police and district attorney’s office officials are not confirming the details of that story.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3, Keizer police officers were dispatched to a parking lot in the area of 2555 Jorie Lane N..E to a report of a motor vehicle crash into a tree. The driver was reportedly unconscious and not breathing. Someone at the scene began attempted CPR.
Upon arriving at the scene, police officers discovered the beige Chrysler van collided with parked cars before coming to a stop near a small island in the parking lot.
One caller to 9-1-1 reported seeing a male hanging out of the van and falling to the pavement where he was picked up by another vehicle and fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
The man was identified late Tuesday evening as 21-year-old Oscar Martinez of Salem. An autopsy performed by the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office revealed he died of a gunshot wound.
That same day, Keizer police arrested two men on drug-related charges. Kristian Mann, 21, of Keizer, and 21-year-old Dasio Armando Gonzalaez, of Salem, are currently being held on $500,000 bail each. The Statesman Journal reported that a deputy district attorney said Gonzalez confessed to being involved in an attempted drug robbery in Keizer Station.
Currently, Gonzalez is charged being a felon in possession of a firearm, fleeing a police officer and manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance. He was previously convicted of identity theft in Polk County.
Mann is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance. Mann has a prior conviction for delivery of a controlled substance in Iowa. He also has previous convictions in Marion County.
Gonzalez was scheduled for another court appearance on Feb. 12. Mann’s next hearing is Feb. 14.
