Federal grant will fund Wheatland Road study

Wheatland Road North will be the subject of a new transportation study to determine what street improvements, if any, are warranted.

The Keizer City Council approved an Oregon Department of Transportation-delivered federal grant in the amount of $191,000 that will pay for a consultant to oversee the study among other costs. Keizer’s matching amount will be 10.27 percent, roughly $22,000.

The study will not necessarily lead to immediate improvements, but it will provide a path forward if and when the city decides to move forward, said Keizer Public Works Director Bill Lawyer.

No timeline has been established, but Lawyer said there would be ample opportunities for area residents to voice their priorities and preferences.

The project was selected as part of federal Surface Transportation Program program, a subset of the Urban Grant Program.
