New chief in the house

In September, Ryan Russell was named the Interim Fire Chief for Keizer Fire District by the board. Russell has been with KFD for two decades, and his start in the field has a strong connection to KFD’s roots. 

Russell started his career as a firefighter as a volunteer, though not in Keizer.

Keizer Toy Swap recycles joy

This year Keizer and Marion County families can find a way to have presents under the tree while saving money and reducing environmental impact.

November is Native American Heritage Month, and the art and tradition stemming from the Chemawa Indian School is being celebrated at the Keizer Cultural Center.

Avian flu cause of dead geese in area

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed that multiple dead geese infected with bird flu have been removed from Staats Lake on three separate occasions in the past two weeks.

SKPS board selects Salazar as new director for Zone 6

At Tuesday’s school board meeting, the Salem-Keizer School Board directors appointed Robert Salazar as the new director to represent Zone 6.

Salazar spent 45 years in education prior to retirement, serving as principal at Myers and Washington elementary schools in the Salem-Keizer district, according to his application and resume.
