Fight night in Keizer

Future Olympic hopefuls and purveyors of the pugilistic sweet science filled the ring in Keizer on Saturday, Aug. 6.

Inside Toe 2 Toe Boxing Gym, the crowd filled the seats and available standing room, ready for 12 bouts. 24 boxers, ages 11-30, representing 14 clubs from Oregon, Washington and California competed in the USA Boxing sanctioned event.

SKPS board bans concealed carry

In a 4-3 decision on Tuesday, Aug. 9, the Salem-Keizer School Board voted to ban the concealed carry of firearms on campuses. 

With the approval of the resolution, it now goes to Superintendent Christy Perry to form and enforce a policy keeping those with concealed handgun licenses (CHL) from bringing firearms on campus.

Surging ‘Sinos sweep

Twice Mante Woods came up with the bases loaded in extra innings for the Campesinos this week. Twice he delivered walk-off wins. 

There had only been one walk-off win this season in the Mavericks League — the Volcanoes last week against the Senators. With their two in Week 12, the Campesinos finished off a three-game sweep and are now only .5 game behind the Mavericks for first place.

Wild week 11 in the Mavericks League

Week 11 of the Mavericks League provided some firsts for the league and season. The first walk-off win of the season, the first player to record a home run and be credited with the win, season debuts from a few players, and it all ended with standings still looking crowded.

USA Boxing in Keizer August 6

The sweet science is coming to Keizer on Saturday, Aug. 6, with the Better Health Boxing Show, an official USA Boxing event.

Toe 2 Toe Boxing Gym will be hosting the event, which is set to feature 10-12 bouts.
