The impressive season for McNary cross-country freshman Jocelyn Schnurbusch continued on Friday, Oct. 14, at the second annual Rose City Championship Invite.

Jocelyn, who set records last season at Whiteaker Middle School, placed fifth out of 102 entrants in the girls 5,000 meters varsity silver event. Her time of 20 minutes, 35 seconds was less than 40 seconds behind first place finisher Lauren Tittel of Oregon Episcopal, while her older sister Nicole finished 20th.

Her personal best time of 19:25 earlier this season is a McNary freshman record and the second fastest girls time in school history, and would have placed her in first by more than 20 seconds at Rose City.

41 Oregon high schools and one from Washington took part in the high school portion of the Rose City Championship Invite.

As a team, McNary’s best finish was in the boys 5,000 meters junior varsity event, where they finished 13th out of 22 teams. The Celtics’ highest finish was in the girls 5,000 meters varsity silver, ninth out of 14 schools.

The best individual male finish for the Celtics came from Brayden Kaehler in the boys 5,000 meters varsity silver. The sophomore finished 13th at 17:43.40, behind seven seniors, three juniors and two other sophomores.

Like Jocelyn, Kaehler set a McNary record earlier this season for fastest sophomore time at 16:44.

The Celtics had two top-25 finishers in each of the varsity races. Jocelyn and Nicole in the girls 5,00 meters varsity silver, while Kaehler was joined by fellow sophomore Vince Estrada, who finished 25th of 120 runners.
