MCFD#1 earns grant for intern

Marion County Fire District 1 has hired a new intern, thanks to grant money from the Special District’s Association of Oregon (SDAO), MCFD announced in a press release Sunday.

SDAO awarded a $3,000 matching grant that was specified for the hiring of a college intern, Antonio Morfin, to create a digital inventory of MCFD1’s assets. While creating the inventory, Morfin is to identify the location and condition of each item, while applying a numbered decal for future identification.

The digital inventory is expected to help with theft prevention, as well as keep track of age and use of items. The district believes this will help with accurate budget lines in the future.

MCFD received 12 applications for the internship after contacting 11 colleges and universities in the Pacific Northwest.

Morfin, a senior at Western Oregon University, was born and raised in New Jersey, and moved to Oregon following his service with the United States Marine Corps, according to MCFD’s press release.
