Enlightened Theatrics will be presenting the Broadway Dreams 2022 musical at Salem’s Historic Grand Theater on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m.
The show is the culmination of a seven-day intensive voice, acting and dance class sponsored jointly by the Salem-based Enlightened Theatrics non-profit and the international theater group Broadway Dreams. It will feature theater and dance students from all over the region, and is being led by two of the most familiar faces on Broadway, Director Matthew Scott (An American in Paris, Sondheim on Sondheim, Jersey Boys) and Scott Anderson Morris (A Chorus Line, My Fair Lady).
Enlightened Theatrics founder and executive director, Vincenzo Meduri, has been helping bring Broadway theater to the mid-Willamette Valley since 2015, but until last year he had focused primarily on offering one-day master classes with accomplished individuals from the industry. After initial success with a more intensive seven-day program last year, he decided to bring it back this year.
“Broadway Dreams tours all over the country and the world,” said Meduri. “I went down to L.A. to see them, met with [Annette Tanner, Broadway Dreams founder], and decided to see if it would work here. We shoot for about 30 students and we did that for both years.”
Meduri said he’s proud that the program offers opportunities to people of all ages.
“Last year, our youngest student was 6, and our oldest was 66,” he said.
