After three years of volunteering at the Keizer Community Library as a manager, Vicki Brammeier retired at the end of April. Part of her job there has involved working with committees on library policies and programs, coordinating the service desk and also remodeling the library.
“During the pandemic when the library was closed, I worked on remodeling our space so it’s more open and welcoming, and on setting up a new computer system so our catalog can be searched from anywhere and patrons can place books and DVDs on hold for later pickup,” Brammeier said.
Before volunteering at the library, Brammeier worked for the state legislature managing technology systems. Once Brammeier retired from there, she responded to a flier at the Keizer Community Library that was looking for volunteers. With her love for libraries, she decided to join. However, Brammeier’s favorite part of volunteering has been being able to get to know the other volunteers at the library.
“The library has approximately 40 volunteers who share a passion for libraries and the community. Each volunteer is a gem and it has been my pleasure to get to know and work with each one. In addition to the volunteers, it’s gratifying to see families come in so the kids can each get their own free library card, then pick out some books,” Brammeier said.
Over the last six months, Brammier has been in cooperation with Clara Lipetzky who was the co-manager. Lipetzky has since taken over the position of manager. Other volunteers have also joined the library, but more are always needed.
“The library’s volunteer corps are fun to work with, the time commitment can be as little as two hours a week, and it’s rewarding to help our patrons and visitors find what they are looking for,” Brammeier said.
Information about volunteering can be found on the Keizer Community Library website.
Now that she has retired, Brammeier plans to spend more time with her family, walk her dog more and catch up on quilting. She mentioned that she also wants to take more trips with her husband, Jon.
