Traveling tuba visits Uptown

Staff members at Keizer’s Uptown Music is host to a traveling tuba raising money for the Salem Symphonic Winds and Marion Polk Food Share.

The Salem Symphonic Winds (formerly the Salem Concert Band) is making plans to reignite its concert season and joining with the Marion Polk Food Share in a fundraising effort to help make it a reality.

“We have a tuba that is visiting different area businesses, inviting the public to drop donations into it. The donations are shared equally with Marion Polk Food Share, to support their efforts to feed the hungry in the mid-Willamette Valley,” said Toni Skelton. The band’s portion of the proceeds will help cover the cost of starting up again.

For the next two weeks, the tuba will be at Uptown Music, 3827 River Road N., in Keizer. Future locations will be announced over the band’s social media feeds.

The band has been on hiatus since COVID hit. Its first concert will be Aug. 15 at Youngberg Hill Winery, tickets are on sale at salemsymphonicwinds.org. Donations to the band can also be made online.
