Keizer Heritage honors two Celt seniors with $1,000

The Keizer Heritage Foundation has awarded $1,000 scholarships to two McNary High School seniors.

Elise R. Ali maintained a 4.0 GPA during her high school education. She plans to attend George Fox University in Newberg.

In school, Ali played soccer and served as team captain this year. She hopes to become a certified nurse-midwife and open her own clinic in a rural area. She also wants to establish a photography business with a studio, focusing on family, maternity and newborn portraits. A Keizer resident since 2010, she finds the community welcoming and friendly.

Layne M. Ling also maintained a 4.0 GPA during her high school years. Her immediate plans are to attend Chemeketa Community College for two years, then transfer to Western Oregon University to pursue a degree in music education, eventually earning a master’s degree. Her career goal is to become a band director at the middle school level. At McNary, Ling played clarinet in the wind ensemble and played alto saxophone in the jazz band. She has volunteered in a number of capacities at school, church and the Salem Public Library.
