Avamere reports 1 COVID-19 infection

Two long-term facilities in Keizer have documented cases of COVID-19 infections according to a list released by the state of Oregon Friday, April 17.

Last week, The Oaks at Sherwood Park in south Keizer was discovered to be battling one of the larger outbreaks at a long-term facility in the state with 14 reported infections. This week, one resident was reported to have caught the infection at Avamere Court at Keizer, but total cases remain “unknown,” according to the document. The facilities will stay on the list until there are no infections at the site for at least 14 days.

The list does not specify whether the residents have remained at the facilities or been taken to hospitals or some other facility. It also does not include outcomes of the infections.

Long-term care facilities have been ground zero for many of the worst COVID-19 outbreaks. Nationwide, according to a tally being kept by The Associated Press, more than 8,400 cases have been reported at long-term care facilities.
