City charter review kicks off Nov. 5

keizer

The first meeting of the Keizer City Charter Review committee is slated for Nov. 5 at the Keizer Civic Center.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m.

City Attorney Shannon Johnson will guide the committee through the current city charter and how it differs from the League of Oregon Cities’ model charter. There will also be time for public testimony during the meeting.

The Keizer City Council formed the committee earlier this year with the hope of removing anti-LGBTQ+ language from the charter. Voters approved the changes in the early 1990s, and actions by the Oregon State Legislature rendered it unenforceable, but the language remains in the Keizer’s founding document.

Zaira Flores-Marin, Shannon Flowers, Broderick Pack, Garry Whalen, Pat Fisher, Kathy Lincoln and Rick Kuehn are the citizen members of the committee.
