The Salem-Keizer Education Foundation (SKEF) is collecting school supplies to stock the School Supply Depot to assure every student has the basic tools they need to succeed in class. The Keizertimes office at 142 Chemawa Road N. is a drop off site.
The School Supply Depot is a resource open to every school, classroom, student program and child in the district which serves 43,000 students in more than 66 schools. According to SKEF, 70 percent of Salem-Keizer children are considered to being living in poverty.
The top requested items are composition notebooks, dry erase pens, scientific calculators, baby wipes, colored pencils, facial tissue, graph paper, notebook paper, scissors, Sharpies and tape. The foundation cannot distribute hand sanitizer to students.
The school supply drive will continue to through Aug. 29. The Keizertimes office is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
