McNary musicians clean up at OMEA district competition

The Oregon Music Education Association District 4 2019 Solo and Ensemble Contest was held at McNary High School on Saturday, March 9. Band, orchestra and choir students from all Salem area high schools competed, as well as students from Blanchet, Dallas and Silver Falls School District. 

Students that placed will move on to the state solo and state ensemble championships that will be held at the end of April. For students that won as first and second alternate, they will know in one week if they will also participate in the state championships.

The students from McNary High School that won in their divisions are:

Clarinet – First place: Nicholas Weathers.

French Horn – First place: Kacey Whitfield.

Flute – Third place: Eryne Ige.

Trumpet – First alternate: Danny Okada.

Small Woodwind Ensemble – First place: Cole Branson, Caleb O’Dell, Alivia Hart (bassoon trio).

Small Woodwind Ensemble – Second alternate: Rose Lelack, Grace Painter, Cassidy Steckmann (flute trio).

Large Woodwind Ensemble – First alternate: Nicholas Weathers, Rilei Smith, Hannah Kuper, Ana Diaz, Jemsa Cid, Lillien Laetzsch (clarinet sextet).

Small Brass Ensemble – Second Alternate: Dante Olivo, Nathaniel Eggert, Kyler McNaught (trombone trio).
